Lenovo G570 Laptop and Fedora 16

Fedora 16 was released yesterday. I didn't dig into Fedora 15 very deep besides fixing my hardware issues so it don't look much different in Fedora 16.

I setup rpmfusion again for the broadcom-wl wireless driver. I also installed Google's yum repo for Google Chrome and the Adobe repo for flash-plugin. The system plays Hulu just fine in Firefox and Chrome.

What's new is this time I was setting up a printer, a Canon Pixma MP280. The printer half works as long as you do not set the resolution to Auto Detect. Pick one like 600x600 and it will print. Otherwise for me it just sat there. Scanning isn't working yet though. There's a driver on Canon's website and I picked the source one. I finally got stuck when it insists I'm missing some header that yum whatprovides isn't finding a good match for. If I ever get around to fixing it I'll write it up.

I just discovered the built-in microphone is not working. I think it's stuck trying to use the 3.5mm jack.  I'll figure it out.

For the microphone, u have to put the following line in the file "/etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf":

options snd-hda-intel model=asus

Now, reboot.

If the above file doesn't exist, create it.

Thanks for the answer but that's actually what the whole next blog post is about. http://blog.derichs.us/2011/11/lenovo-g570-built-in-microphone-on.html
